I find it funny Kad that you saw this as well. My sister told me about it a few hours ago and it prompted me to do some research.

Blue and black is what I see.

I have yet to find an explanation for the debate. I've discussed with my family and sone see blue and black while others see white and gold. As of now we are in a state of craze over this, so any "answers" that emerge are simply people making things up to ride the viral spread of the picture. I hope we will get a response from a real eye doctor or someone qualified soon.

Interesting thing actually, for me it looks like yellow (or lavender) and white, but if I squint the yellow turns gray-ish and the white becomes a light blue, maybe it has something to do with the shading of the picture?

Sumaiyah you aren't dumb! A LOT OF PEOPLE SEE WHITE AND GOLD!! Both my parents saw white and gold so it isn't only you! In fact, 57% of the people see white and gold on most polls.

It's based off of the coloration in yours eyes, it comes genetically. When the picture was made, the "blue" was actually a white color near the blue region, and the "black" was actually a dark gold color, which of course was near the black region. There was practically a 50/50 chance that you would see a different type.

That isn't it. The most logical and agreeable reason is that the lighting in the picture makes people compensate for what they see. With that, some people compensate so much that they perceive the different colors. I don't think it has anything to do with the way our eyes were genetically formed. From what I have seen, it is like, some people over compensate for the photo's bad lighting, and see the white and gold. People who don't over compensate see the black and blue. Whether it is actually black and blue or white and gold is kind of irrelevant. The cool thing about the photo, is the lighting is so perfect and everything about the photo is so perfect to where it plays on this compensation variable so well, that person to person, they will see different stuff. I think the cool part is that, not really whether it is actually one or the other. Maybe I am wrong, but this explanation seems to be the most logical and scientifically sound. I highly highly doubt that it has anything to do with how our eyes differ from person to person. That just seems to abstract or like, not realistic.
